ஒரு நாட்டிற்கு ஒரு கலாச்சாரம் உண்டு என்றாலும், கேரள நாட்டில் பல அருவருப்பான கலாச்சாரங்கள் உண்டு. குறிப்பாக பார்பனரிடம் காணப்படுகின்றவைகள் மிகவும் அருவருப்பானது கேளும்.
“இதைவிடக் கொடுமையான ஒரு பழக்கமும் இவர்களிடத்தே (நம்பூதிரி பிராமணர்கள்) காணப்படுவதாக ‘ஆபேடூபே’ என்ற வரலாற்று ஆசிரியர் விவரிக்கிறhர்,
“Among these same people, again, is another distinct caste called Namboodiri, which observes one abominable and revolting custom. The girls of this caste are usually married before the age of puberty, but if a girl who has arrived at an age, when the sign of puberty are apparent, happenes to die before having had intercourse with a man, caste custom rigorously demands that the inanimate corpse of the deceased shall be subjected to a monstrous connection. For this purpose the girls’ parents are obliged to procure by a present of money some wretched fellow willing to consummate such a disgusting form of marriage for were the marriage not consummated the family world consider itself dishonoured”.

இப்பேர்பட்ட ஈனச் செயல்களைப் புரிகின்ற உயர் இந்து என்று பெருமை பாராட்டுகின்ற நம்பூதிரிப் பிராமணர்கள், கேரளத்தில் தாழ்ந்த சாதிப் பெண்கள் மார்பகங்களை மறைத்து மானமாக வாழ்வதற்கு அனுமதித்திருப்பார்களா? பெண்கள் இன்னொரு வெறிச் செயலைக் குறித்து கூறுகிறhர்கள்.
“An old Brahmin attending a feast in a temple caught hold of a young Nair girl, full grown with bare blooming breast and caressed her in front of all others present”.
